Venus was the goddess of sexual love, desire, fertility and embodied many epithet where she also included Victory, Celestial and much more.
She was the patron goddess of Julius Caesar himself, who claimed decent from her through her son Aeneas the founder of Rome whom escaped from Troy.
Venus is also shown here getting the golden apple awarded to her as in the story of the Judgement of Paris. When Paris of Troy picked Venus ( Aphrodite who is the Greek equivalent) in the story, she awarded him with the love of the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen. He took Helen back to Troy and caused the Trojan war which are related to in the Iliad and the Odyssey.
Cupid is her son and his equivalent in Greek is Eros. Both are depicted on ancient Greek and Roman coins. An apparently unique coin depicting Eros is shown here.
